Men's Basketball Falls to Gordon in Conference Play, 84-70

MILTON, Mass. - Gordon College defeated Curry College 84-70 in Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Katz Gymnasium.

The win lifted the Fighting Scots' record to 11-6 (7-3 CCC) while the Colonels dipped to 1-16 (0-10 CCC).

The first nine and a half minutes of action was evenly matched as the teams were deadlocked at 14. The contest hung around a five to seven point deficit for the remainder of the first half until Eric Demers (Acushnet, Mass.) knocked down a three-pointer to give Gordon their first double-digit lead with 2:41 left in the first half, 32-22. Demers converted on another three with 29 seconds left to send the Fighting Scots into the locker room with a 37-25 lead at the intermission.  

Curry was able to cut the Gordon lead down to as few as 13 in the second half, but a strong start powered the Fighting Scots to secure the victory, 84-70.

Three of the Gordon starters finished in double figures. Demers went 8-of-15 from the field to finish with a team-high 22 points. Garrison Duvivier (Brockton, Mass.) added 16 points and 20 rebounds while Jake Haar (Huntington Beach, Calif.) chipped in with 16. Noah Szilagyi (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) came off the bench to go 3-for-5 from the floor, including 2-for-4 from distance to finish with eight points.

Curry junior Lherief Kenku (Brockton, Mass.) tallied a game-high of 27 points on 9-for-17 from the floor (6-for-9 from deep) and chipped in six rebounds and two blocks in his debut in a Colonels uniform. Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) also added 20 points off the bench on 8-for-15 shooting, while chipping in six rebounds, two assists, and one block.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, January 24 with a road contest at Wentworth at 7:30 p.m. Gordon will next host the University of New England on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
