Men's Basketball Absorbs 100-72 Loss To UNE in CCC Play

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team suffered a 100-72 setback against the University of New England on Tuesday night in conference action.

Alex Kravchuk (Mansfield, Conn.) tallied a game-high 23 points and pitched in three rebounds and five steals to lead the way for the Nor'easters. Ryan Matthews (Park Ridge, N.J.) joined Kravchuk in double figures with 15 points to go along with two rebounds and one steal in 14 minutes of action.

Kravchuk and the Nor'easters registered 52 of their 100 points in the paint. UNE shot 41 percent from the field and were 8-of-27 from behind the arc.

Sophomore Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) recorded a double-digit scoring output with 21 for Curry (1-15 overall, 0-9 CCC) while chipping in six rebounds in 31 minutes. Freshman Jeff Card (Providence, R.I.) recorded a career-high 15 points while also registering seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

Off the bench, Matt Hobbs (Anchorage, Alaska) and Gavin Dibble (Greenport, N.Y.) tallied nine points, while 14 of the Nor'easters 19 players scored in the 100-point effort.

After leading 11-2 with 15:22 left in the opening frame, UNE would go on to increase the lead to 20 before the intermission and would enter the break with a 49-32 lead.

Both teams traded baskets to open the second half of play, but the Nor'easters eventually built a 39-point lead with 6:13 left in regulation following a lay-up by Sean Walsh (Falmouth, Maine), 98-59. UNE would go on to capture the contest by the 100-72 final.

Curry returns to action on Saturday, January 20 when they host Gordon at 3:00 p.m. UNE hosts Endicott on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
