Men's Basketball Falls to New England College in Non-Conference Play, 107-68

HENNIKER, N.H.—The New England College men's basketball team defeated Curry College with a 107-68 final on Sunday evening in non-conference action.

The win boosts NEC to 3-2 on the season, while Curry falls to 1-4.

NEC LEADERS 
The Pilgrims received 18 points from sophomore Izaiah Winston-Brooks (Roxbury, Mass.) and 15 points from junior Ricky Leonard (Windsor, Conn.). Twelve different players scored for NEC in the win, including Calvin Cheek (Mattapan, Mass.), Jason Jones (Roxbury, Mass.) and Joe Fama (Lynnfield, Mass.), who all finished with nine points apiece.

Cheek also picked up a team-best five steals and dished out four assists.

CURRY LEADERS 
The Colonels received a game-high 24 points from Jared Thorpe-Johnson, who shot 10-for-14 from the floor with four three-pointers. John Coleman chipped in with nine points.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The Pilgrims opened the game with an 8-0 run in the first 59 seconds of the game, including back-to-back three pointers by Leonard and a steal and fast-break layup by Winston-Brooks to force Curry into a timeout. The Colonels broke the streak on their first offense set out of the timeout with a three-pointer by Thorpe-Johnson, but Curry would be plagued by turnovers on the first half.

Curry committed 20 first half turnovers, allowing NEC to score 29 of its 59 first half points off of turnovers. Twelve different players scored for the Pilgrims in the first half, led by Leonard with 10 points.

 The Colonels improved on their mistakes in the second half, committing just four turnovers in the 20-minute frame. The Pilgrims stepped up their shooting in the second half as well, hitting 54.5 percent (18-33) of their field goal attempts to finish the day at a 52.1 percent average (38-73).

The Pilgrims scored 46 points in the paint, 33 points off of turnovers, and received 49 points from their bench. They held their largest lead, 42 points, with 4:58 remaining in the game.

WHAT'S NEXT 
The Pilgrims return to action on Wednesday, November 29 when they host Norwich University in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game. Curry returns to action on Wednesday when they host Wentworth in their conference opener at 7:30 p.m.
