Yale Tops Men's Basketball in Non-Divisional Match-Up

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Curry College men's basketball team dropped a 107-42 decision to Yale University on Sunday afternoon at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs improve to 2-3 overall while the Colonels fall to 1-2. The game marked the first meeting between the two schools.

Yale, which picked up its second straight home victory and 52nd home win over the last five-plus seasons.

Five Bulldogs scored in double figures. Azar Swain (Brockton, Mass.) paced Yale with 20 points off the bench. Try Phills (Charlotte, N.C.) added 18 while Paul Atkinson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) put up 13. Eric Monroe (San Diego, Calif.) and Alex Copeland (Los Angeles, Calif.) closed out the Bulldogs in double figures with 10 apiece.

Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.)  and Barak Swarttz (Newton, Mass.)  had 10 points apiece to pace Curry. Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) chipped in with eight while Swarttz tallied a team-high three steals.

Offensively, the Bulldogs shot 59.7 percent from the field, had assists on 31 of their 43 field goals and made 11 three-pointers. Defensively, Yale limited the Colonels to 29.3 percent from the field.

The Bulldogs also won the battle of the boards, 48-28.

Thorpe-Johnson scored the first bucket for Curry at the 18:07 mark of the first half, but Yale answered with to double up the Colonels 10-5 and would to take early command after that. By midway through the first half, the lead was 17 and it grew to 42, 55-13, by halftime.

Curry returns to action at home against Emmanuel on Tuesday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m.
