Men's Basketball Picked Tenth in CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry College Men's Basketball team has been predicted to finish tenth in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) as determined by the results of the Preseason Coaches' Poll that was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

Defending CCC Tournament Champion Nichols nabbed the top spot in the poll, grabbing 99 points and nine first-place votes. Gordon came in at the number two spot with 82 points followed by Roger Williams with 80. The final first-place vote went to Endicott who tallied 70 points. Wentworth rounds out the top five in the poll with 64 points.

Western New England (42), Eastern Nazarene (42), University of New England (34), Salve Regina (33) and Curry (11) round out the bottom half of the poll.

Curry adds four freshmen and two upperclassmen newcomers to the 2017-18 roster, as the team enters its third season under head coach Matt LeVangie. The Colonels also return eight student-athletes to put together this year's squad, two of which missed all of last season due to injury. The Colonels return their third-leading scorer from last year in Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.), who recorded 11.6 points per game during his freshmen campaign. Curry will also look to sophomore forward Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) for leadership in the frontcourt. Carroll registered 7.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. The Colonels will have depth in their backcourt as their roster features 10 guards. In addition to Thorpe-Johnson, Curry will look to Louis Stein (Las Vegas, Nev.), Jason Logue (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) Barak Swarttz (Newton, Mass.), Spencer Feng (Keene, N.H.), Alex Stein (Las Vegas, Nev.), Akhari Goodridge (Cambridge, Mass.), RJ Hadfield (Warwick, R.I.), Nick George (Rockland, Mass.) and Jeff Card (Providence, R.I.). Carroll will be looked upon to lead the forward position but will also turn to Justin Kelley (Medford, Mass.) and Dwayne Boothe (Jamaica, N.Y.). The roster is completed with their lone center in senior John Coleman (Warwick, R.I.).

The Colonels open the 2017-18 season on Friday, November 17 against Castleton at 5:30 in the opening game at the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
