Men's Basketball Halts Five-Game Losing Skid with a 56-47 Win at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball dropped a 56-47 decision to visiting Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Wednesday evening. The Colonels snapped a five-game losing skid with the victory.

Curry started off the first half with a 4-0 lead but that was cut short by a Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y) three-point bucket. After trading baskets, the score was tied at eight off a jumper by RWU's Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.). Jennings would later give RWU a one-point lead after going 1-for-2 at the line.

Josh Syska (Peabody, Mass.) extended the lead with a three-point shot for a six-point advantage, yet Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) answered right back for Curry with a three pointer of his own.

From there the Colonels would mount a comeback, using Jones' shot to start an 11-3 run. Matt Russell (South Portland, Maine) knocked down a shot to make the score 21-19 in favor of Curry, but Nick Marini (Loudonville, N.Y.) answered back and evened the score on a two point bucket.

Curry closed out the half with five straight points, including a three by Jones with 32 seconds left in the half to put the Colonels on top 26-21 at the end of the half.

Curry opened the second half on a 12-5 run to build the lead to 13 with 14 minutes left in the game. The Hawks managed to pull back within six (34-40) on a three-point play by Palumbo with 11:10 to play. The Hawks and Colonels trade baskets for over three minutes leaving the Colonels with a nine point lead with seven minutes left in the game.

Senior guard Ryan Palumbo's 1,000th career point came with 5:40 left in the game, making it 38-45 in favor of Curry. However, that would be as close as the Hawks would come over the rest of the game.

Jones led all scorers with 22 points for Curry. Russell added eight points and eight rebounds, while Jordan Vieira (Marbella, Spain) went for six points and six boards.

Palumbo led RWU with 17 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Josh McCourt (Lincoln, R.I.) added nine points and two rebounds off the bench, while Jennings finished with six points and five boards.

On Saturday, Roger Williams (7-15, 5-10 CCC) heads to Wentworth Institute of Technology, while Curry (5-17, 3-12 CCC) hosts Endicott. (Recap courtesy of RWU Sports Information)
