Men's Basketball Halts Six-Game Losing Skid with a 68-51 Win Over Visiting UNE

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College topped the University of New England on Senior Day, 68-51, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Wednesday night in Milton. The Colonels improved to 5-19 on the season and 4-13 in CCC play, while the Nor'easters fell to 1-23 overall and 1-16 in league action.

Curry College took its biggest lead of the first frame (36-23) after senior A.J. Stephens (Stamford, Conn.) made a layup with 1:08 on the clock. UNE scored the final two baskets of the period to trim the deficit to nine (36-27) heading into halftime. Senior Kurt Steiner (Rutland, Mass.) and sophomore Jesse Dykstra (Douglas, Mass.) accounted for the baskets, respectively.

With 11:53 remaining in the second half, the Colonels extended their lead to 20 (51-31) after freshman Paul Preziosi (Quincy, Mass.) split a pair from the charity stripe. The Nor'easters answered with a 16-5 run that was capped off with a three-pointer by freshman Brayden Morse (Long California, Calif.) with 4:03 on the clock. Curry went on to score 12 of the game's final 16 points to secure the 68-51 victory.

Junior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) led the Colonels with a game-high 22 points, while senior Carlos Ribeiro (Charlestown, Mass.) added 13. Senior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. Junior Matt Russell (Portland, Maine) pulled down a game-best nine boards.

UNE was led by sophomore William Abdul-Malak (Beirut, Lebanon) with a team-high 10 points. Steiner recorded nine points, while Dykstra and freshman Tom Nason (Milton, N.H.) added eight apiece. Dykstra also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

Both teams return to CCC action on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., as the Nor'easters host Roger Williams, while Curry travels to Salve Regina.
