Men's Basketball Cruises Past UMass Dartmouth, 89-74
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Visiting Curry outscored the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team 30-9 in the first 8:15 minutes of the second half and went on to defeat the Corsairs, 89-74, in a non-conference game at the Tripp Athletic Center Thursday evening.
 
Leading, 89-74, the Colonels went on their run after sophomore guard Mike Rotando (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ) connected on a three-pointer to open the second half, cutting the CC lead to 43-40. Junior forward A.J. Stephens (Stamford, CT) had eight points during the run, which left Curry ahead, 73-49, with 10:45 remaining.
 
The teams traded the lead back and forth in the first half, with junior guard John Genkos' (Worcester, MA) hitting a three-pointer to give the Corsairs their last lead at 31-29 with 3:02 remaining. Junior guards Carlos Ribeiro (Charlestown, MA) and Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, MA) hit a couple of shots to put the Colonels up, 34-31, and they never trailed again.
 
Junior forward Eleazar Clayton (Boston, MA) and Genkos each had 15 points to lead the Corsairs, freshman forward Abi Akanni (Fitchburg, MA) had 12, while Rotando and sophomore center Alex Rodrigues (Fall River, MA) each scored 10. Stephens of the Colonels led all scorers with 28 points, senior forward Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, MA) added 18, sophomore guard Antonio Jones (Boston, MA) added 12, and Papalambros scored 11.
 
UMD made 44.1 percent of its shots, but Curry shot 56.1 percent from the field and was 19 of 23 from the free-throw line to the Corsairs' nine of 14.
 
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 0-7 with the defeat, while Curry improved to 4-4 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Plymouth State Saturday. The Colonels will host Wesleyan Saturday. (Game recap courtesy of UMD Sports Information)
