Men's Basketball Moves to 2-0 in League Play with 73-62 Win at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. - The Colonels of Curry College moved to 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play today with a 73-62 win over the Fighting Scots at Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center. With the loss the Scots drop to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Curry's win was paced by a 14-point, 16-rebound double-double from A.J. Stephens (Jr./Stamford, Conn.) and a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double from Sedale Jones (Sr./Pittsfield, Mass.).

Forward David Dempsey (Sr./Wallingford, Conn.) led the Scots' charge with 15 points and nine boards, while forward Hans Miersma (So./Whitinsville, Mass.) had 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks and guards Luke Hamilton (Jr./Mount Airy, N.C.) and Taylor Bajema (So./Whitinsiville, Mass.) chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Curry was sharp offensively from the opening whistle, establishing a 13-6 lead behind five points from Jones in the opening five minutes of action. The Scots rallied on their own offensive end to keep the game within one (24-23) with three and a half minutes remaining in the opening frame. Curry, however, utilized a 9-4 run in the final minutes to build a 33-27 advantage at the midway point.

The Scots quickly overtook the lead at the start of the second after David Dempsey and Jason Dempsey (So./Wallingford, Conn.) converted a pair of jumpers and Hamilton and Park Thomas (Jr./Scottsdale, Ariz.) hit from long range while defensively holding the Colonels to just two points to make it a 37-35 Gordon lead.

Gordon could not quite sustain that offensive momentum, though, as the Colonels took over the lead for good at 14:08 off a three from Lambros Papalambros (Jr./Quincy, Mass.) en route to the 11-point win.

Papalambros rounded out his effort with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while Antonio Jones (So./Boston, Mass.) booked 10 points for Curry. The Colonels finished the night having scored 18 points off Gordon turnovers, with 25 of their total points coming from the bench.

The Scots break from conference action to face host Wheaton on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7p.m., while Curry hosts non-conference Williams on the same night at 7p.m. (Game recap courtesy of Gordon Sports Information)
