WORCESTER, Mass. - A late 15-0 run in the second half proved to be the deciding factor as WPI defeated visiting Curry 83-76 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Tuesday night. The win gives WPI a 3-0 mark on the season while the Colonels fall to 1-2.

The first half saw both teams go back-and-forth with neither team taking the lead by more than six points. Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, MA) scored 12 of his 20 in the first half and teammate A.J. Stephens (Stamford, CT) was also in double figures in the first half scoring 10 of his 22 points in the stanza. Stephens also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds on the night.

The Colonels’ Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, MA) was impressive, scoring 20 points on the night, giving Curry three players with at least 20 in the game.

Trailing 60-53 with 5:52 to go in the game, Marco Coppola (Watertown, MA) scored eight of his game high 32 points in a 3:30 span giving WPI the lead 68-60 with 2:22 to go. Joe Wesoloski (Arlington, MA) started the Engineer run when he laid in a bucket and was fouled, converting the 3-point play.

Junior Ryan Kolb (Southington, CT) was big down the stretch for the Engineers scoring 12 of his career-high 18 in the second half. Defensively Kolb was equally as tough corralling 11 rebounds, also a career high, giving him his second double-double of his career. Sam Longwell (Acton, MA) was in double figures pouring in 12 points on the night.

WPI held a slight advantage in field goal percentage on the night shooting 49.2% (30-61) while Curry shot 44.8% (26-58). The Engineers also held Curry to a season low of 76 points, 20.5 points below their average.

Both teams are back in action after the Thanksgiving holiday on Saturday afternoon.  WPI entertains local rival Becker at 2pm while Curry heads to Cambridge to face top-ranked MIT at 1pm. (Game recap courtesy of WPI Sports Information)
