39 Points From Jones Not Enough As Men's Basketball Falls 75-74 at Lesley
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University overcame a 10-point deficit, climbing out of a five-point hole in the final 2:55 to take a 75-74 nail-biter from Curry College in non-conference men’s basketball play.

The Lynx also overcame a nearly unstoppable effort from Curry’s Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, MA/Pittsfield), who shot 6-10 from three-point range and 13-15 at the line, scoring 23 of his game-high 39 before halftime, when the Colonels led 46-43.

Three players registered double-figures for Lesley, led by 17 from point guard John Sanchez (Carson, CA/Saint John Bosco), who entered as the league’s leading free-throw shooter and hit 11-15 freebies tonight, including the game-winner that broke a 74-74 tie with 15 seconds to play.

Lynx senior Jesus Trejo (Methuen, MA/Methuen) enjoyed the finest game of his final season, as the pivot turned in 15 points, and game-highs of 13 rebounds and two blocks for his second double-double this season. Bryant Itonyo (Medford, MA/Medford) added 13 points on 4-7 shooting from downtown.

A Trejo layup off a Sanchez inbounds tied the contest at 71-71 at the 2:32 mark. Curry’s Michael Worrick (North Grafton, MA/Gtafton) and Lesley’s Thorton Paul exchanged three-pointers on ensuing possessions, leaving the game tied as the home team inbounded after its timeout with 26 seconds left.

As Sanchez drove base line, he was bumped on the hip, and Sanchez hit one of two to give his team the lead. After a Curry timeout with 1.8 seconds remaining, Jones caught a heave at half court, dribbled and lofted a 35-footer that bounded just left off the top of the rim, sending the Lynx to victory.

Lesley plays on Saturday at WIT at 1 p.m., while Curry host Newbury on Saturday at 7 p.m. (Game recap courtesy of Lesley Sports Information)
