AMHERST, Mass. – The 9th-ranked Amherst College men’s basketball team played host to the Colonels of Curry College at LeFrak Gymnasium in non-conference action. The Lord Jeffs led 53-15 at the break and never looked back en route to a 101-45 win. Amherst remains unbeaten at 15-0 on the year, while Curry falls to 4-12.

Amherst received points from 16 different players in the win, with Taylor Barrise, Conor Meehan and David Waller each reaching double-digits in scoring. Sedale Jones paced the Colonels with 17 points in the loss.

Amherst opened up a 5-0 lead on a three from Barrise and a pair of Willy Workman free throws. After a Jones score on a reverse, Meehan hit a three for a six-point lead. Another Meehan triple with 13:21 to play gave Amherst a 13-2 lead. On Amherst’s next possession, Waller made the fourth three for the Jeffs in the early going.

By the midpoint of the half, Waller scored on a layup to give Amherst a 24-9 lead. After a nice finish in traffic by Eric Guglielmello, Meehan hit his third straight shot to start the night for a 30-11 advantage. Waller stayed hot with consecutive scores, before senior co-captain Kurt Bennett finished off a three-point play the old fashioned way.

Amherst closed the half on a 25-5 run, with sophomore Landrus Lewis bringing a large interterm crowd to life with a pair of highlight reel layups. At the break, Waller led all players with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Amherst out-scored Curry by just a 17-15 margin in the first five minutes of the second half. Jones scored 10 of the Colonels first 15 points of the half, single-handedly carrying the load offensively for Curry.

Through the middle of the second half, Amherst rookies Connor Gach, Tom Killian and David Kalema helped power the Amherst offense. Classmate Logan Buckner played well down the stretch, corralling 10 boards in the second half.

After a pair of missed free throws with 12 seconds left, Amherst was left to dribble out the clock on a 101-45 win.  The Lord Jeffs will return to action on Saturday afternoon against Trinity at for a home NESCAC game at 2 p.m. The Colonels host conference foe Gordon College on Saturday at 3 p.m. (Game recap courtesy of Amherst Sports Information)
