MBB Notches Come-From-Behind 76-69 Win Over New England College
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College trailed by four at the half, but outscored visiting New England College 40-29 over the final 20 minutes, securing a 76-69 win in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) men’s basketball action Wednesday night in Milton. The Colonels improve to 9-10 overall and 6-2 in TCCC play while the Pilgrims fall to 6-14 overall and 1-7 in TCCC play.

The two teams traded leads throughout the first half. The Pilgrims took their largest first-half lead right before intermission when sophomore guard Eric Lenahan (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) sank a three-pointer with 28 seconds remaining to put NEC up by four, 40-36.

The Colonels fought back and took a seven point lead (50-43) with 12:14 remaining in regulation after a layup by sophomore guard Jarrell Jackson (Brockton, MA). The Pilgrims pulled within two (50-48) after three free throws by senior guard Jamie Davies (Plymouth, U.K.).  Junior forward Michael Worrick (North Grafton, MA) made a layup to give the Colonels their biggest second-half lead (64-53). NEC chipped away at Curry’s lead and pulled within three points (72-69) with 24 seconds remaining after a pair of free throws by senior guard Rafael Salado (Boston, MA). The Colonels held on to their lead and a layup by junior forward Chris Bonadies with 14 seconds left in regulation put the Colonels ahead by five (74-69) and put the game out of reach. Curry went on to win 76-69.

Senior guard Mark Mastrullo (Billerica, MA) led the Colonels in scoring with a game-high 21 points, Jackson contributed 17 points, and Worrick added 14. Senior forward Philippe Jourdain (Cambridge, MA) was the only other Curry player in double figures with 10. Jourdain posted a double-double with a game-high 13 rebounds. Bonadies also helped on the boards with 10.

The Pilgrims were led by Davies who scored a team-high 17 points, including 4 three-pointers. Junior forward Shane Hennessey (Plymouth, U.K.) chipped in with 13, while Lenahan contributed 11.

Curry returns to action on February 6, traveling to Eastern Nazarene for a 3:00 p.m. contest. New England College returns home for a 3:00 p.m. contest this Saturday against Western New England College.
