Football Defeated By Endicott in CCC Football Action

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Curry College football team fell 61-34, to Endicott College on Saturday afternoon in the Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) play at Hempstead Stadium.

The Gulls struck first on the opening drive, putting together an eight-play, 59 yard series, capped off by a 25-yard touchdown pass from senior Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) to classmate Justin McEwen (Meriden, Conn.). Senior Nick DiCairano (Trumbull, Conn.) added the extra point to make the score 7-0.

The Colonels had the answer on the following drive as junior Zach Levy (Bellingham, Mass.) found the end zone with a 22-yard rush to finish off an eight-play, 88 yard drive in 3:39. Freshman Evan Damian (East Haven, Conn.) tacked on the point after to knot the contest at seven.

Endicott scored on the following drive when junior Anthony Whiteley (Pittsfield, Mass.) scampered in from seven yards out to conclude a nine-play, 50-yard series. DiCairano split the uprights to give the Gulls a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Gulls added to their lead on their first possession of the second quarter. Kalosky connected with senior Ryan Nelson (Mendon, Mass.) for a six-yard score to finish off a seven-play drive. DiCairano's extra point was successful to move the score to 21-7.

Following a Curry three-and-out, Endicott regained possession and went 66 yards in six plays, capped off by a one-yard touchdown pass from Kalosky to McEwen. DiCairano added the point after to increase the lead to 28-7.

After an eight-play drive that yielded no points and ending in a turnover on downs, the Gulls would get the ball back with just over five minutes to go in the half. On the second play of the drive, Endicott moved into the red zone with a 40-yard pass from Kalosky to Nelson. Whiteley found the end zone from 13 yards out on the next play for his second touchdown of the afternoon. DiCairano was good on the extra point to push the score to 35-7.

The Colonels added a score right before the end of the half as they put together a 14-play, 79-yard drive, which was finished off by a one-yard rush by senior Nick Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y.). Damian split the uprights on the point after to make the score 35-14 at the half.

Curry obtained possession coming out of the intermission. After a penalty and an incomplete pass to open the drive, Juvelier was sacked for a seven-yard loss, causing a safety to increase the lead to 37-14.

Endicott struck quick after the safety as Kalosky and freshman Anthony Bracamonte (Saco, Maine) connected for a 70-yard touchdown pass. DiCairano tacked on the extra point to increase the lead to 30, 44-14.

The Colonels had the answer on the following drive, putting together a six-play, 50-yard drive which was capped off by a one-yard rush by Levy. Damian's PAT was blocked to keep the score at 44-20.

The Gulls' ensuing drive was halted on the first play when freshman Joshua Gabbidon (Orlando, Fla.) picked off a Kalosky pass. Curry capitalized on the turnover and traveled 55 yards in 10 plays, eventually finding the end zone when Juvelier tossed a touchdown pass to freshman Gabriel Desouza (North Andover, Mass.) from a yard out. Damian was successful on the extra point to cut the deficit to 17, 44-27.

Endicott added points on its next drive, using four plays to get in field goal range for DiCairano. He was good on the kick to increase the lead to 47-27.

After a turnover on downs, the Gulls got the ball back with 1:31 left in the third stanza. Endicott used three plays, covering 19 yards to find the end zone when junior Dylan Bonfilio (Burlington, Mass.) connected with Bracamonte for a one-yard touchdown pass. DiCairano tacked on the extra point to move the score to 54-27 with one quarter to play.

The Colonels scored once more in the contest as they put together a six-play, 75-yard drive that was finished off by an eight-yard touchdown pass from Juvelier to Desouza. Damian pitched in the point-after to make the score 54-34.

Endicott added the game's final score on the next drive after they travelled 59 yards in nine plays. Freshman Anthony Caggianelli (Pelham, N.H.) scored on a one-yard rush to increase the lead to 61-34, the eventual final.

Curry was led by Juvelier, guiding the offense with 260 yards on 20-of-32 passing and two touchdowns. Levy concluded the contest with 82 rushing yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns while Desousa brought in seven receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore James Nyamwaya (Andover, Mass.) led all Colonel defenders and tied a game-high with nine tackles.

Kalosky led the Endicott offense through the air, going 19-of-23 for 319 yards along with four touchdowns and one interception. Whiteley paced the ground game with 75 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns. Bracamonte led the Gulls' receivers with 97 yards on six receptions and two touchdown. Defensively, junior Tim Russell (Stoneham, Mass.) and senior Tom Lorusso (Stony Brook, N.Y.) registered a game-high nine tackles each.

Curry (1-5 overall, 1-2 CCC Football) returns home to host Western New England University on Saturday, Octofber 26 at 1:00 p.m. Endicott (5-1 overall, 3-0 CCC Football) travels to Husson for its next contest on Saturday for a noon kickoff.
