Football Uses Big Fourth Quarter to Break Free From Becker on Senior Day, 22-6

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College football team used a 20-point fourth quarter to break away from visiting Becker College on Saturday afternoon at rainy Walter M. Katz Field on Senior Day, 22-6. Prior to the contest, the program honored its seniors in a special ceremony.

Following a scoreless first half that featured 108 combined yards between the teams, the Colonels got on the board at the 7:55 mark of the third quarter with a safety. An ill-advised snap went through the back of the end zone to put Curry up 2-0.

The Colonels tacked on another score to start the fourth quarter as Nick Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y.) capped off a three-play, 12-yard drive with a one-yard rush to push the score to 8-0. With an extra point from Nick Oliveira (East Providence, R.I.), the lead was sent to 9-0.

A little over a minute later, the Hawks fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Curry. The Colonels capitalized off the turnover as Zach Levy (Bellingham, Mass.) broke off a 42-yard rush to the house. After a failed two-point conversion, the score remained 15-0.

Becker tallied its first points of the day as Alpha Barry (Staten Island, N.Y.) connected with Edwin Velasquez (Jupiter, Fla.) for a 22-yard touchdown pass to finish off an eight-play, 62-yard drive. The point after attempt from Mac Kimball (Bow, N.H.) was no good to have the score stay at 15-6.

Curry added a touchdown late on a 50-yard rush from Levy to cap off a four-play, 57-yard series to extend the lead to 21-6. An extra-point kick from Oliveira split the uprights to push the score to 22-6, the eventual final.

On a tough day for offense, Levy shined for a season-high 40 rushing attempts for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Juvelier added seven rushes for 20 yards and a score.

Barry led the Hawks going 4-for-14 passing for 76 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. David Collins (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the ground game with 14 attempts for 24 yards. Velasquez brought in two receptions for 53 yards and one score.

Hunter Atwood (Reading, Mass.) finished the contest with a team-high 10 tackles, including a sack. Marcus Greenidge (Flushing, N.Y.) and James Nyamwaya (Andover, Mass.) pitched in with five apiece while Jeremy Eliades (Berlin, Conn.) concluded the game with four.

Jared Zieman (Bethel, Conn.) led all players with 12 total tackles, including a half a sack and one fumble recovery. Christian Perkins (Melrose, Mass.) and Joseph Lennehan (Dedham, Mass.) added seven tackles each. Ryan Gries (North Branford, Conn.) finished with six.

Curry (3-6 overall, 1-4 CCC Football) enters its bye week this coming week and then will head to Nichols on November 10 for its season finale. Becker (0-8 overall, 0-4 CCC Football) hosts the University of New England on Saturday, November 3 at noon.
