Football Trio Takes Home CCC Football Players of the Week Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A trio of Curry College Football players have been honored as the Commonwealth Coast Football Players of the Week. Senior captain Alex Corvese (Cranston, R.I.)  was named the Offensive Player, Sean Amaru (Westwood, Mass.)  the Rookie and Marc Mrozek (Stratford, Conn.) the Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Sunday afternoon. The three played a major factor in the Colonels' 47-20 victory over Anna Maria on Friday. The victory moved Curry to 3-0 on the season.

Corvese earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after he had a four-score day as the Colonels ran away from Anna Maria and earned a 47-20 victory. The win moved Curry to 3-0 on the season. Two of Corvese's touchdowns came in the air as he completed nine of 14 passes for 183 yards. The senior captain also added 91 rushing yards (50 coming on a single run) and two scores on the ground.

Amaru garners the Offensive Rookie of the Week title after a solid game on the ground as he contributed 89 yards and a touchdown in the Colonels' 47-20 victory over Anna Maria. He rushed 13 times, averaging 6.8 yards per carry including a 47-yard touchdown dash in the first quarter.

Mrozek was named Special Teams Player of the Week after the junior kicker scored 11 points in the Colonels 47-20 victory over Anna Maria on Friday (Sept. 15). He was perfect on his two field goal attempts, converting from 37 and 32 yards. He also converted five of six extra-point tries. Mrozek also punted three times for a total of 136 yards (45.3 yards per punt) with his longest boot going for 54 yards.

Curry returns home this weekend when they host Union (N.Y.) on Sat. Sept. 23 at 1:00 p.m.
