MILTON,Mass. - The Curry Football team earned their first NEFC victory Saturday afternoon, 42-41 over Maine Maritime at Walter M. Katz Field in the Colonels' annual homecoming game. Alex Corvese  (Cranston, R.I.) went 30-for-52 for 303 yards for five touchdowns and one interception. Jake Cawlina (Danvers, Mass.) paced all receivers with nine receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns. D'Aundray Burcy (Hyde Park, Mass.) had 89 yards on the ground on ten attempts, including one touchdown.

For the Mariners, Core Creeger (Biddeford, Maine) led the visiting team completing three of seven passes for a total of 58 yards. He also added 17 rushes for 50 yards for four touchdowns. Joshua Doolan (Fairfield, Maine) registered two catches for 35 yards for Maine Maritime.

The Mariners jumped on the board first when Creeger capped off a seven-play, 60 yard drive that spanned 2:56 with a four yard run to make the score 7-0 in the early going.

Curry answered back with seven-play, 71 yard drive finished off by a 24 yard touchdown pass from Corvese to Anthony Nastasi (River Edge, N.J.) to tie the game at seven.

The Colonels would gain their first lead of the contest when Corvese tallied his second touchdown pass of the contest when he completed 23-yard pass to Tyler Fuery (Atkinson, N.H.) to complete a five-play, 40 yard drive in 2:06.

This back-and-forth contest featured six lead changes and four ties. One of those ties occurred in second quarter when Maine Maritime knotted the game at 14 after Cody O'Brien recovered a fumble and returned it 75 yards to the house.

The lead changed hands once again after Cawlina brought in a 15-yard pass for a touchdown to give Curry a 21-14 lead to cap an eight play, 61 yard drive in 3:49.

The game would feature another one lead change and one tie before the end of the first half. Creeger  tallied his second touchdown of the game when he scored from a yard out to tie the game at 21.

But the Colonels would have the lead going into the locker room at the half when Burcy ripped off a 54 yard rush to give Curry 28-21 advantage after two quarters of play.

To open the second half, Creeger finished off a five-yard touchdown rush to pull the Mariners to within one point. The point after was missed so the game remained 28-27 with nine minutes remaining in the third.

Maine Maritime was able to grab the lead once again when Trenton J. Bouchard (Winslow, Maine) picked off a pass from Corvese and returned 41 yards for the touchdown. The Mariners then went for two and Creeger scored the two point-conversion to give the visiting team the 35-28 lead.

The Colonels got right back in the contest when Chartrand brought in a 24 yard touchdown pass to cap off an eight-play, 72 yard drive to the the game at 35.

The Mariners came back with a touchdown drive of their own when Creeger finished off a four-play, 36 yard drive with an eight yard touchdown run to give Maine Maritime the 41-35 lead. They opted to go for two but the Curry defense stood strong to keep the deficit at six.

The Colonels were able to come right back and score to give Curry the 42-41 advantage. Corvese tossed a touchdown pass to Cawlina from 13 yards out to finish off a seven-play, 23 yard drive.

Maine Maritime had one final opportunity to get into scoring position. They had a fourth and four and Creeger was unable to complete a pass to Jordan Susi (South Portland, Maine).

Curry took a few knees in the victory formation to conserve the win for the Colonels.

Corey Chapman led the Mariner defense with nine total tackles while Steven Grogan (Forestdale, Mass.) paced all players with 13 tackles for the Colonels.  Curry outgained Maine Maritime 438-260 in total yardage.

Curry (3-3, 1-3 NEFC) hits the road for a two-game road trip. They will be in action Saturday at Nichols for a noon kickoff. Maine Maritime (1-5, 0-4 NEFC) will next play at Western New England Saturday at 1 p.m.
