Sainterlien & Shairs Named as 2014 Football Captains

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Football Team has announced its captains for the 2014 season. Fullback Jordan Shairs (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester HS) and linebacker Stanley Sainterlien (Providence, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) were chosen by their teammates and coaches to lead the 2014 Colonels during their senior season.

Shairs had a stellar 2013 campaign on his way to earning First Team honors from the New England Football Conference (NEFC). The junior started in all nine games, leading Curry in rushing touchdowns (5), receptions (55), receiving yards (517), receiving touchdowns (8), points scored (80), and all-purpose yards (1,013). He was second on the team with 478 rushing yards on 71 carries.

"Jordan is a quiet leader who leads by performance, and he's one of the most talented offensive players to play for the Colonels in my tenure," said Head Coach Skip Bandini. "My sense is Jordan will meet all of the expectations of his teammates and coaches in his new role."

Sainterlien had an equally impressive junior campaign. He ranked second on the team in both solo tackles (36) and total tackles (52). Sainterlien started in all nine games, collecting five tackles for loss (-17 yards), a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two pass break-ups.

"Stanley is one of the most well-respected student-athletes on our team," said Bandini. "His work ethic has elevated him to this point and we as a coaching staff have no doubt he will be one of our greatest leaders."

Curry is tentatively scheduled to open its 2014 campaign at home at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5th against Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).
