Fruwirth Earns Capital One Academic All-District Football Honors
MILTON, Mass. – Curry College junior quarterback Kevin Fruwirth (Agawam, Mass.) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Division III Football Academic All-District team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for his performance both on the field and in the classroom. He will now be eligible for selection to the national Capital One Academic All-America squad that will be announced later this month.

In the classroom, the Criminal Justice Major currently maintains a 3.64 grade point average through four semesters. After attending Saint Anselm College his freshman year, Fruwirth transferred to Curry to begin his sophomore year. He was subsequently named to Curry Dean’s List after both semesters of the 2011-2012 academic year.

Fruwirth played sparingly during his sophomore year, but took over as the Colonels’ starting signal-caller for the 2012 campaign. He began his record-setting season in style by establishing a school mark for completions in a game with 30 in a Week 1 loss to WPI. Fruwirth went on to equal that record three more times during the season. He also equaled a school record for touchdown passes in a game with five against Western New England. He was named as both the NEFC and ECAC Northeast Offensive Player of the Week on September 16.

By the end of the 2012 regular season, Fruwirth had started in all 10 games, leading Curry to a 6-4 record. He threw 27 touchdown passes and only eight interceptions. Most impressively, Fruwirth set Curry season records for completions (266), attempts (457) and passing yards (2,770).

The Capital One Academic All-America program, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.  Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America program since 2011.
