Baseball Holds Off Dean in Non-League Action

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Curry College baseball team captured a 10-7 non-conference victory over Dean College on Monday afternoon at Longley Field.

The Colonels trailed 2-0 in the early going but tied the game in the fifth and scored three runs over the final four innings to complete the comeback. Sophomore Dylan Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.) drove in three runs on the day to lead Curry (5-7-1 overall).

Freshman hurler Ryan Williams (Waltham, Mass.) earned the win in relief in his second appearance this season. He logged four innings of work and allowed no runs on four hits while striking out three.

Dean (2-10 overall) got off to a quick start with a two-run second inning. Senior Travis Dinsdale (Worcester, Mass.) opened the scoring with an RBI single to left field, which drove in sophomore Vincent Buonaiuto (Danbury, Conn.). Sophomore Brian Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) then followed with a double to right-center to plate Giuseppe Casabianca (Yonkers, N.Y.).

The Colonels answered right back with one of its own in the top of the third. Freshman Trevor Pietrzyk (Taunton, Mass.) singled up the middle to bring Ketterer around from second to make the score 2-1.

The Bulldogs equaled Curry in the home half of the third frame on an RBI groundout by senior Rolando Marcano (Bridgeport, Conn.) to second base to score junior Andrew Dirito (Plymouth, Mass.) to maintain the two-run advantage.

The Colonels were on the comeback trail in the middle innings and began to chip away at the deficit. In the fourth, freshman Evan Leveroni (Sandown, N.H.) initiated the scoring with an RBI flyout to center, which was deep enough to plate junior Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.) to pull within one at 3-2.

The visitors knotted the contest on an RBI single to first base by freshman Julian Jaume (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with the bases loaded in the fifth. With the bases chucked, Ketterer scored from third. Keller then broke the tie with a two-RBI single to plate Pietrzyk and junior Adam Duarte (East Providence, R.I.) to pull Curry in front 5-3. Senior Tyler Jenkins continued the rally with a double to center to score Keller and Jaume to push the score to 7-3 at the end of five.

The Colonels added three more runs in the contest, two in the seventh and one in the ninth. Ketterer converted on a single to left center to plate Leveroni and Keller to extend the lead to 9-3. Keller would score on a throwing error by freshman Griffin Connelly (Easton, Pa.) to round out the scoring.

Dean plated four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but that was not enough as Curry came away with the three-run victory. Dirito started things with a base knock to center field, which scored Dinsdale. The Bulldogs then scored on back-to-back plays later in the frame. Marcano followed with another single, this time to left field to score Hadden. The final scoring play saw sophomore Landon Fish (New Port Richey, Fla.) double to right center to plate Marcano and freshman Zachary Bochenek (Fredricksburg, Va.) as the game would end in a 10-7 final.

Freshman Tyler McAloon (Berkley, Mass.) (1-2 overall) threw 7.0 innings and allowed nine runs (six earned) on 11 hits while striking out four to collect the loss.
