Two Colonels Honored By CCC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the Curry College baseball team were recognized by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) on Friday morning as the league announced its annual awards.

Senior catcher Justin Cage (Glendora, Calif.) received one of the conference's top honors as he was named CCC Defensive Player of the Year. He was also selected to the all-conference first team. Senior captain David Griffin (Hanover, Mass.) joins Cage on the All-CCC First Team to round out this year's All-Conference selections.

Cage was solid behind the plate for Curry this year making only a single error in 151 chances giving him a .993 fielding percentage. He was also helped keep the run game in check throwing out 50 percent of would-be base stealers. He cut down 16 runners on the base paths ranking him third in the CCC in that category. In conference play, the 12 runners he caught stealing led the league. Offensively, he batted .321 (27-for-84) with five doubles, five home runs and 27 runs batted in. Cage ranked second in the league in home runs and tenth in the conference in RBI's.

Griffin closes out his career with his third straight First Team All-CCC selection. The Hanover, Mass. native finished the season with a 5-2 record on the hill, tossing three complete games. He ranked second in the CCC in wins (5) and strikeouts with 59. Griffin also finished in the top five in the league in earned run average with a 2.18 mark. Griffin was twice named as the CCC Pitcher of the Week and was also a two-time ECAC Division III North Pitcher of the Week selection.
