Baseball Tabbed Fifth in CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry College baseball team has been selected fifth in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Salve Regina comes in at number one in the poll with 79 points and eight first-place votes. Endicott was selected second with 71 points. Western New England checks in at the third spot with 62 points. Nichols lands in fourth with 56 points and the final first-place vote while Curry closes out the top five of the poll with 39 points. Roger Williams (36), Gordon (28), Wentworth (21), and Eastern Nazarene (13) round out the bottom portion of the poll.

Curry enters its first season under first-year head coach Paul Bortolotti, who spent the last seven years on the staff as the lead assistant and pitching coach. Bortolotti will rely on his senior leadership, starting with his captains: 2017 First Team All-CCC Selection David Griffin (Hanover, Mass.), John Cave (Tewksbury, Mass.), Matt Hailey (Weymouth, Mass.), and Justin Cage (Glendora, Calif.). The Colonels return 17 student-athletes and add 12 newcomers to the roster as the squad strives to improve on their finish from a year ago, a team that finished 15-20 overall and 10-6 in conference play, earning a home playoff game as the number four seed.

Curry opens the 2018 season on Saturday, March 10 as they are set to play McDaniel (Md.) in a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m. in Winter Haven, Fla. as a part of the RussMatt Invitational.
