Baseball Drops Non-League Tilt With Suffolk, 10-6

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College baseball team dropped a 10-6 non-conference tilt to visiting Suffolk University on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Rams move to 10-6 while the Colonels fall to 6-12 on the season.

Curry got on the board first, thanks to a solo shot from the bat of Vincent LoPriore (Boston, Mass.) to make the score 1-0.  Later in the frame, the Colonels would tack on another when Alex McLean (Eliot, Maine) grounded into a fielder's choice, which allowed Tyler Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) to cross home.

Curry increased its lead in the third by one to grab a 3-0 advantage by way of a Jenkins single which plated LoPriore.

Suffolk would respond in the top half of the fourth when Greg Speliotis (Salem, Mass.) grounded to short to score Seth Coiley (Arlington, Mass.) to get a run up on the board. The frame continued when Luke Ronchi (Randolph, N.J.) reached on an error by the Colonel shortstop, which plated Matt Brenner (Eliot, Maine).

The Rams continued the onslaught in the top of the fifth when Brady Chant (Warwick, R.I.) doubled to right to drive in Trevor Lee (Flanders, N.J.). Matt Brenner then crushed a three-run bomb and the Kevin Belskie (Norristown, Pa.) singled through the right side to score Speliotis.

The strong offensive day for Suffolk continued in the sixth, thanks to a sacrifice fly from Sean Cameron (Milford, Conn.) to score Kevin Higgins (North Attleboro, Mass.) and then Coiley singled through the right side to score Chant to make it a 9-4 ball game.

Curry answered the Rams two runs with two of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Jenkins tallied an RBI single through the right side to score LoPriore and then John Cave singled through the left side which scored Nick Crivello (Millville, Mass.) to put the score at 9-6.

Suffolk put up one more tally for the contest in the top of the seventh, thanks to an RBI single from Kevin Higgins. The base knock scored Speliotis to make the final score 10-6.

Four different Rams student-athletes registered two hits apiece. Lee and Higgins had one hit each to close the offense for the visitor.

LoPriore finished the game with a 3-for-3 day at the plate with three runs scored and an RBI. Jenkins, Crivello and Cave each tallied multiple hits for Curry.

Ryan Pordes (Hawthorne, Calif.) picked up the win for Suffolk. He went four and two thirds while striking out six and walking just one. James Mello (Fall River, Mass.) was credited with the loss, going five innings. He gave up four runs on eight hits, struck out one and walked two.

Curry will next play Wednesday at home in a doubleheader against Western New England beginning at 2:30 p.m. Suffolk will return to action Wednesday at Eastern Connecticut State. First pitch is slated to be at 4:00 p.m.
