ATLANTA, Ga. – The Curry College baseball team dropped its first game of the 2017 season by an 8-2 final to Oglethorpe University at Anderson Field in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday night. With the victory, the Stormy Pretels move to 2-2 on the young season while the Colonels fall to 0-1 overall. David Griffin (Hanover, Mass.) recorded the loss in the contest, amassing five strikeouts in six innings pitched while allowing five walks.

Curry got the scoring started in the top of the first when Matt Fogarty (Millis, Mass.) doubled to left center. The hit knocked in Justin Cage (Glendora, Calif.) to give the Colonels the early 1-0 advantage.

Curry doubled the lead in the fourth when Nick Crivello (Millville, Mass.) came up to the plate and homered to left field to push the score to 2-0.

The Colonels would hold Oglethorpe hitless for four and two thirds innings before the Stormy Pretels get the advantage. The bottom of the fifth inning started when Jarvis Miller (Nashville, Tenn.) reached on a fielder's choice. Following the fielder's choice Corey Hamm (Valrico, Fla.) advanced to all the way to third on an error by Michael Moreau (Marshfield, Mass.). The error allowed two Stormy Pretels to score to tie the game at two.

Oglethorpe then tacked on four in the seventh to take the lead. Miller put the Stormy Pretels ahead with an RBI single to right which scored Hamm and then Austin Ferlita (Odessa, Fla.) stepped up to the plate and knocked out a three-run home run to take a 6-2 lead.

Oglethorpe would tally two runs in the bottom of the eighth as they would capture the game by an 8-2 final.

Alex McLean (Eliot, Maine), Cage and Fogarty each recorded two hits for the Colonels. Fogarty and Crivello put up one RBI apiece while Cage and Crivello tallied a run apiece to lead Curry.

Curry returns to action on Saturday Feb. 18, returning to Anderson Field at Oglethorpe University against the Stormy Pretels. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
