Curry falls to Johnson and Wales 6-5

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Curry College baseball teams' comeback fell just short on Saturday afternoon, as the fell to Johnson and Wales 6-5 in a non-conference battle. 

Johnson and Wales jumped out to an early lead, scoring runs in the first two innings of play. The Wildcats added three more runs in the bottom half of the fourth frame. The Colonels finally found their groove and battled back, putting up four runs on three hits in the top half of the fifth inning. Senior Philip Perez (West Covina, Calif.) put the Colonels on the board with a single to left field, scoring Senior John Arens (Milton, Mass.). Freshman Matt Forgarty (Millis, Mass.) reached on an error by the shortstop, allowing Junior Nick Crivello (Millville, Mass.) and Junior Alex McLean (Eliot, Maine) to score to cut the lead down to two. Sophomore William De La Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in the final run of the inning for the Colonels with a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Perez. 

Johnson and Wales added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, extending the lead back to two runs, and it would go on to be the winning run. Curry added another run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch, allowing Sophomore John Cave (Tewksbury, Mass.) to score and make it a one run game.

Kevin Manning picked up the win for the Wildcats and Freshman Brandon Bercovitz (West Bridgewater, Mass.) got the loss for the Colonels. 

Curry returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 26 when they travel to the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth for a non-conference battle. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
