MILTON, Mass. – Junior Kyle Connors stroked a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning, plating sophomore Alex McLean with the game-winning run, as Curry College defeated fifth-seeded Roger Williams, 5-4, to capture the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Baseball Championship. Connors game-winning heroics were preceded by a game-tying, three-run home run by Curry freshman Evan Morris in the bottom of the eighth.

The third-seeded Colonels (23-13) claimed their first CCC Tournament title since 2007, and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins with regional round-robin play on May 13.

The Hawks (19-20) forced the winner-take-all game by knocking off the Colonels, 18-7, in the first contest of the day.

Roger Williams 18, Curry 7

The scoring was opened in the bottom of the first when Morris singled in senior John Arens who doubled and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from senior Derek Pizarro.

The Hawks responded in the top of the next inning when freshman Matt Moskal singled through the left side of the infield scoring sophomore Caulin Rogers and junior Shawn Cariglio.

It wasn't until the top of the fifth inning when Roger Williams scored again, bringing home seven runs. Junior Kevin Baker started with a walk and stole second. Senior Chris Travers singled and advanced to second on an error on the centerfielder which also brought Baker home. Cariglio reached on an error and Travers came across. Rogers followed with a double, bringing home sophomore Bryan Terzian and advancing Cariglio to third. Moskal singled to left which brought home Cariglio for an unearned run. Rogers would score on a single to center off the bat of freshman Sean Gaffney who would later come around and score along with Moskal after Baker singled both of them in to wrap up the big inning.

Curry responded by getting four runs back in the following half-inning when sophomore Nick Crivello singled to left bringing home Morris, who reached on a fielder's choice. McLean delivered an RBI double to left which ended up scoring senior Philip Perez who drew a walk to get on base. Freshman William De La Cruz singled home both McLean and Crivello bringing the score to 9-5 after five full.

In the top of the sixth, the Hawks plated five more, the first of which came from Travers, who scored on a wild pitch during Moskal's at bat. Junior Jamie Timothy had a two-RBI double to left which brought home Rogers, who singled, and freshman Zach Tavano, who pinch ran for Cariglio after he reached on a fielder's choice. Baker followed with a two-RBI double himself scoring Timothy and Moskal, both of which were unearned.

Roger Williams would add three more to their total in the top of the seventh starting with Moskal reaching on an error with the bases loaded scoring Tavano and Travers. Freshman Sean Gaffney then supplied a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Rogers.

The Colonels would respond in the following half-inning with Connors doubling in McLean who reached on an infield single to the shortstop. Arens grounded out with runners on the corners, but not before freshman Anthony Sciaudone scampered home after drawing a walk while pinch-hitting for De La Cruz.

The Hawks would get one more run before the end of the game in the top of the eighth with Baker coming home while advancing on a throwing error on the centerfielder after senior Reid Nelson singled there.

Senior Thomas Fitzpatrick took the loss after giving up eight runs total through 4 1/3 innings. However, only five of the runs were earned on nine hits and six walks while striking out a trio of batters. Freshman Nick Kinsella got the ball for an inning and two thirds giving up six runs, but none were charged to him. He allowed six hits while fanning two. Sophomore Vincent LoPriore went two innings for the Colonels giving up four unearned runs on two hits and two walks. Sophomore Mike Reiher also went an inning only allowing one walk and fanning one.

Troy DeLeon earned the victory going 4 2/3 innings giving up five earned on eight hits and three walks while notching four strikeouts. Jimmy Hamilton went an inning and two thirds for Roger Williams giving up two earned on four hits and one free pass while striking out a pair. A.J. Bashaw got the ball for two and two thirds only allowing two hits while striking out two.

Curry 5, Roger Williams 4

The winner of the second game today would be crowned as CCC Champions and Roger Williams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Baker supplied a single to right field and would score on a lineout to centerfield off the bat of Travers. Terzian delivered an RBI single scoring Nelson who doubled down the left field line earlier.

The Hawks got another run in the top of the second with Moskal scoring on a balk called on the starting pitcher, senior Tanner Givens.

Curry got on the board in the bottom of the third, with McLean scoring on Arens' single back up the middle bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of Roger Williams after three full. Rogers came across the plate for the Hawks in the top of the fourth after Timothy delivered a single to left field, giving the visitors a three-run cushion again.

It wasn't until the bottom of the eighth when Curry cracked the scoreboard again, with Morris coming up big with a three-run home run scoring himself, Pizarro and Arens, tying the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the ninth inning with the game still tied, McLean delivered a one out single to get things started for the Colonels. De La Cruz advanced him to second on a ground out, and Connors delivered the two-out single to center that scored McLean and gave Curry the league crown.

Givens went 3 2/3 innings for the Colonels, getting a no-decision after giving up four runs, only three earned, on six hits while striking out a pair. Freshman David Griffin got the victory with his 5 1/3-inning effort surrendering only one run and a walk, while recording four strikeouts.

Tyler Campo also received a no-decision, going 7 2/3 giving up four runs, only one earned, on six hits and three walks while getting four outs by way of the K. Sam Bennett took the loss as he gave up the winning run along with three hits for Roger Williams.
