Third-Seeded Baseball Advances to Championship Sunday with a Walk-Off 6-5 Win Over #6 Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. – The third-ranked Curry College baseball team advanced to Championship Sunday in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament by defeating #6 Salve Regina, 6-5, at Gordon College. The unbeaten Colonels will host #5 Roger Williams at noon on Sunday, needing just one win to claim the CCC title. The Hawks would have to defeat Curry twice on Sunday to claim the title.

In the bottom of the first, senior Tanner Givens doubled down the right field line, scoring freshman Evan Morris and senior Derek Pizarro.

In the top of the fifth, Salve Regina pulled even on a two-run home run by Daniel Donohue, and later took a 4-2 lead when a series of fielding miscues allowed John Militano to score.

The Colonels quickly evened things up in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of a two-run double by sophomore Nick Crivello that plated senior Philip Perez and Morris. Crivello then came around to score on an RBI base hit by Givens.

With Curry leading 5-4 in the top of the seventh, the Seahawks knotted the score again when Alex Perry singled through the left side, scoring Ryan Kelly.

Pizarro led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to left field. After a sacrifice by Morris and an intentional walk to Perez, Crivello reached on an error by the third baseman that also allowed Pizarro to score the game-winning run.

Sophomore Brian Burke (4-1) went the distance, surrendering seven hits, four earned runs and two walks, while striking out nine in nine innings.
