MILTON, Mass. - Curry College fell to visiting Rhode Island College 4-3 in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon in Milton.
With the defeat, the Colonels fall to 13-7 on the season and are set to host Western New England University Saturday for a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader.
The Anchormen improve to 15-7 and will host Eastern Connecticut State University for a Little East Conference doubleheader Saturday as well.
The game was tied after three full with neither team cracking the scoreboard. RIC finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning courtesy of a solo home run from junior Matt Foley (Seekonk, Mass.). That would be all of the scoring until the top of the sixth.
Junior Joseph Yankee (Lincoln, R.I.) started things up with a home run of his own, knocking in freshman Brad Douglas (Wakefield, R.I.) who singled earlier. Foley singled to center and would later score on an error off the bat of senior Tyler Santaniello (Cumberland, R.I.)
Curry would get on the board in the seventh with senior Derek Pizarro (Cambridge, Mass.) starting things up with a single to left. He advanced to second on a hit from freshman Will De La Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.) and would advance to third when freshman Anthony Sciaudone (York, Maine) reached on an error. Pizarro would later score on a passed ball and both runners would move up. Senior John Arens (Milton, Mass.) would single and score De La Cruz making the score 4-2 in favor of the Anchormen after seven full.
The Colonels would threaten again late in the eighth inning with sophomore Nick Crivello (Blackstone, Mass.) doubling in junior Phil Perez (West Covina, Calif.) who doubled himself. That would be the last scoring of the game however, and the final score came to 4-3.
Sophomore Mike Reiher (Ramsey, N.J.) took the loss going six innings giving up all four earned on six hits. Sophomore Chris Smith (Scituate, Mass.) finished out the latter three innings giving up only one hit and striking out two.
Freshman Dan Greaves (Warwick, R.I.) would get the win going five full giving up only two hits and striking out three. Yankee got the save coming on in the ninth striking out one batter.
