Baseball Shut Out 3-0 by Visiting Fitchburg State in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Fitchburg State blanked Curry College 3-0 in non-conference baseball action Monday afternoon in Milton. The Falcons improved to 14-9 on the season while the Colonels fell to 6-16 overall.

Fitchburg State sophomore starting pitcher Javier Lozada (New Bedford, Mass.) tossed the complete-game shutout, surrendering just four hits and one walk while striking out five in his nine innings of work. He improved to 2-2 on the season.

The Falcons broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when freshman Steven Drury, Jr. (Ashburnham, Mass.) led off with an infield single and was driven home by a double to left off the bat of junior Pierce Hans (Washington Township, N.J.).

Fitchburg State plated a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth, courtesy of a two-run single from sophomore Mike Martignetti (Boston, Mass.) that scored Hans and Drury, Jr.

Sophomore Philip Perez (West Covina, Calif.) had two of the Colonels' four hits, and their only extra-base hit, a seventh-inning double to left center.

Freshman Brian Burke (Swampscott, Mass.) fell to 1-3 on the year despite pitching seven solid innings. He allowed six hits, two walks, and one earned run while fanning four.

Both teams continue with non-conference play tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., with the Falcons hosting Lesley and the Colonels welcoming Keene State.
