Trio of Curry Student-Athletes Earn CCC Weekly Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Curry College sophomore Thomas Fitzpatrick (South Boston, Mass.) and junior Jennifer Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) were named as Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) baseball and softball Pitchers of the Week, respectively, for the period ending April 28. In addition Curry College junior shortstop Megan Flaherty (Medway, Mass.) was named as softball Player of the Week.

Fitzpatrick hurled a four-hit shutout in the Colonels’ 2-0 victory over Wentworth in the CCC finale for both teams. The effort helped lock up the No. 6 seed in the upcoming CCC tournament for Curry.  In seven innings, Fitzpatrick struck out eight and walked two.

Lundstrom posted a 2-0 record on the mound for the Colonels this past week as she did not allow any earned run to cross the plate in 14 innings of work.  In a 6-5 win over Gordon, she struck out six, while only walking two.  In a big 1-0 conference tournament victory over Eastern Nazarene, Lundstrom had a hand in 13 of Curry’s 21 outs in the game as she struck out 12 and recorded an assist.  The Colonels will now take on the No. 3 seeded Western New England in the double elimination round of the CCC tournament.

Flaherty batted .538 (7-for-13) with seven RBI, five runs scored, two stolen bases, one double, and three home runs in a 3-0 week for the Colonels. In game two of the single elimination phase of the CCC Championship tournament, Flaherty had a leadoff home run in the sixth to take a 1-0 lead over Eastern Nazarene and eventually secure the Colonels moving on in the tournament. Earlier in the week, she went 6-for-10 in a doubleheader sweep of conference opponent Gordon (8-7, 6-5).
