Baseball Tripped Up 5-3 by Johnson & Wales in Non-Conference Action
MILTON, Mass. – Visiting Johnson & Wales defeated Curry, 5-3, in non-conference baseball action Friday afternoon in Milton. The Wildcats improve to 13-8, while the Colonels slip to 4-7-2.

Johnson & Wales broke on top 1-0 in the top of the third thanks to an RBI groundout by Tyler Newell that scored Rob Bocchetti. The Wildcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Pete Rosa led off the inning with a double. Bocchetti and Newell both reached on errors while laying down sacrifice bunts, with Rosa and Bocchetti crossing the plate.

Curry finally dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth as a Matt O'Neill fielder's choice brought home Tanner Givens. Givens had led off the frame with a double off the leftfield wall.

In the top of the eighth, the Wildcats stretched their advantage to 5-1. Jack Hocking smacked an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Jake Dickerson. The Colonels shaved their deficit in half in the bottom of the eighth, taking advantage of three Johnson & Wales errors, and getting an pinch-hit RBI doublke from Matt Moore.

Both teams return to conference play for road doubleheaders on Sunday, with Curry visiting Roger Williams (11 a.m.) and Johnson & Wales traveling to Brandeis University to play Lasell (2 p.m.)
