Curry Athletics Announces Year-End Award Winners

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Athletic Department announced its award recipients for the 2020-21 academic year on Wednesday, May 12. The award winners are as followed:

Athletes of the Year

This award goes to the senior male and female athlete(s) who displays the highest athletic performance throughout their Curry career. The selection will be made by the coaching staff and, normally the individual selected will be an All-Conference player.

Co-Male Athletes of the Year

Andrew DeLeary (Gr., Wakefield, Mass.) – Men's Lacrosse

DeLeary has been a member of the men's lacrosse team since the 2017 season. He played in 67 games, making five starts. Over his career, he registered 144 points on 82 goals and 62 assists. DeLeary also scooped up 102 ground balls and has registered 22 caused turnovers. He is also a two-time All-CCC selection and prior to this season, he was named as a USILA/Dynamic Division III Preseason All-American Honorable Mention selection.

 

Jake Stebbins (Gr., Colchester, Vt.) – Men's Lacrosse

Stebbins has been a member of the men's lacrosse program since the 2017 season. He saw time in 67 games, starting in 28 of them. During his career, Stebbins tallied 81 goals and 49 assists for 130 points. He also had 180 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. Stebbins is a one-time All-CCC selection and prior to this season, he was named as a USILA/Dynamic Division III Preseason All-American Honorable Mention selection.

 

Co-Female Athlete of the Year

Jocelyn Dimond (Sr., Weare, N.H.) – Softball & Women's Soccer

Dimond was a two-sport student-athlete, playing softball and women's soccer.

On the softball field, Dimond has played in 96 games. She compiled a .268 batting average with 18 RBI's, 30 stolen bases, 61 runs scored, and 68 total bases. Dimond was also a Second Team All-CCC selection in 2018.

On the soccer pitch, she appeared in 54 matches, making 46 starts. Dimond was a Third Team All-CCC selection in 2018.

Across both sports, she has been named to the CCC Academic All-Conference in every semester she has been eligible (5).

 

Taylor Newcomb (Sr., Millville, Mass.) – Softball

Newcomb appeared in 102 games over four seasons with the Colonels' softball program. She finished her career with a batting average of .292 with 12 doubles, three triples, 37 RBI's, four stolen bases, 32 runs scored, and 99 total bases. In the circle, Newcomb registered seven victories and two saves to go along with 14 complete games and 68 strikeouts. She is a one-time selection to the CCC Academic All-Conference Team.

 

Scholar Athlete Award

This award goes to the male and female athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of a scholar and athlete. The recipient must be of junior or senior academic standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The coaching staff will make the selection and, normally the individual selected will be an All-Conference player.

Male Scholar Athlete of the Year

 

Tristan Morin (Sr., Unionville, Conn.) – Men's Ice Hockey

Morin, a Biochemistry Major with a Math Minor, holds a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. He appeared in 70 career games on the ice and registered 29 points on nine goals and 20 assists. Morin is a two-time member of the CCC Academic All-Conference Team. Out of the classroom, he is the Vice President of the Tri-Beta Honor Society, a society dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending the boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Morin is also the Vice President of the club golf team and has also served as a peer tutor.

 

Female Scholar Athlete of the Year

 

Kelsie Rainone (Sr., Plainville, Mass.) – Women's Cross Country

Rainone, an Early Education and Care Major with Minor in Psychology, has achieved a 3.97 grade point average. She has been a two-year member of the women's cross country program and has also been a two-time selection to the CCC Academic All-Conference Team. She remains very active on campus, serving as a Captain. Additionally, she is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Leadership programming, while also serving as a Resident Assistant and a peer tutor.

 

Colonel Pride Award

This award goes to the senior athlete who best exemplifies the ideals of Colonel Pride. Not necessarily based on talent, the award is given to one who displays good sportsmanship, coachability, an excellent work ethic, and embodies pride in all they do. The coaching staff makes this selection.

 

Riley Cronin (Sr., East Providence, R.I.) – Baseball

Cronin was a four-year member of the baseball program. He has appeared in 34 games, registering a .246 batting average to go along with 15 hits, three doubles, eight RBI, 18 total bases, and 11 runs scored. Off the field, Cronin worked in the Athletic Department and was always there to lend a hand.

 

These awards go to members of the College community or friend of Colonel Athletics for their support and dedication to the Curry student-athletes. This selection is made by the coaching staff.

 

Kelly Melville – Head Athletic Trainer

Melville was instrumental this year and every year in keeping our student-athletes safe and healthy, both on and off the playing surface. She was a key figure in helping ensure that all athletic-related COVID-19 guidelines were followed to keep our student-athletes, teams, and community safe.

 

Brandon Clay – Student Worker in Sports Information Office

Clay was a student worker within the Sports Information Office, serving as the primary Public Address Announcer for several of Curry's varsity athletic teams over the last three years. He was a key member of the Sports Information Office over the last years and was instrumental in getting The Colonel Cast, the official podcast of Curry Athletics, off the ground this past fall.
