Colonels Volunteer at Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk

BOSTON, Mass. – On Saturday, May 4, members of the Curry College football, women's soccer, women's volleyball and men's basketball teams volunteered their time at the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Massachusetts Walk, which is one of the largest fundraisers for the education for breast cancer ever created. There are series of 5K runs and fitness walks raises significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. The Komen Race Series welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels, from walkers to elite runners.

The student-athletes assisted with registration, passed out t-shirts and cheered on the participants as a part of this community service project.

"On behalf of Susan G. Komen New England we would like to extend our deepest, heartfelt gratitude to Curry College Athletics for another exemplary year of volunteering service to our organization, in particular men's basketball, women's volleyball, football, and women's soccer, said Tony Secinaro, a Volunteer Coordinator of the event. "It's getting harder each year to find the right words to express how important your student-athletes are to making our More Than Pink Walk (and formerly Race for the Cure) such a success. Year after year they bring such dedication and enthusiasm to the event and help to make it really special. We received many comments this year about how moving it was to have all of the athletes joined together in a huge cheering sendoff as the participants started out on their walk. We also want to give a special thank you to Skip and the football team for stepping up when another volunteer group cancelled at the last minute. Despite being one of the first volunteer groups to arrive at 6:30 a.m., they stayed until the event was over and helped with the daunting task of breaking down the site and loading up the truck. Thank you again and we look forward to continuing this close relationship with Curry Athletics next year!"
