Curry SAAC and SGA Host First-Ever Colonel Festival

MILTON, Mass. – It was a perfect spring day for the first-ever Colonel Festival down on Katz Athletic Field. The Curry College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student Government Association (SGA) began planning this event first semester with the goal in mind to provide a field day type event complete with prizes, games, music, food, and fun.

Colonel Festival was planned to wrap up NCAA D3 Week. Colonels were greeted with an ice cream truck, cotton candy, popcorn, and cookies as soon as they entered the field. After checking they received raffle tickets and a stamp card. For every event that you participated in you received more tickets for raffle prizes such as Apple Air Pods, Red Sox tickets, various gift cards and more.

Students could participate in kick ball, wiffle ball, spike ball, tug of war, Kan Jam, corn hole and a giant inflatable big ball challenge similar to the television show Wipeout.

Student Body President Rachel O'Donnell said, "For our First SGA and SAAC partnered event, I couldn't be more pleased with the turnout of Colonel Festival. Everyone came together to support one cause and it was great to see both groups work so well together. It was a really successful event and everyone had a blast."

SAAC President Caroline Johnson echoed those thoughts saying, "The feedback we received was really encouraging. Everyone really enjoyed the variety, prizes, and just having fun interacting. It was a great way to end D3 Week."

Colonel Festival is something SGA and SAAC will look to continue and grow next year. "I was very proud of SGA and SAAC for all the hard work and planning that went into this event. Seeing over 200 students turn out is a true testament to them working together to provide an event people wanted to partake in," said SAAC Coordinator and Men's Soccer Coach Peter Mendel.
